RLA Director of Event Services Receives Certified Meeting Professional Certification

September 14, 2010

Cranberry Township, Pa, September 9, 2010 - The Regional Learning Alliance (RLA) is pleased to announce that Tawnya Curatola, Director of Event Services and Assistant General Manager, is now a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP).  This distinction is the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry’s foremost certification and highest standard of professionalism.

The CMP program is governed by the Convention Industry Council, an organization designed to facilitate the exchange of information within the meetings, conventions, and exhibitions industry.  Individuals wishing to obtain the certification are required to have extensive education and industry-related experience and 25 hours of continuing education or internship experience.  Furthermore, they must complete a 165-question exam, covering the variety of functions a meeting planner must perform based on the CMP Blueprint.  The Blueprint encompasses five domain areas, 49 tasks and 230 knowledge topics, all categorized into 23 modules and nearly 1,500 pages of text.

After months of studying and preparation, Curatola travelled to Washington D.C. in late July to complete the exam.  Upon passing, she joined only 38 other Certified Meeting Planners in the Pittsburgh area and is the only CMP in Cranberry Township.  She has been with the Regional Learning Alliance since it opened in August 2004 and is also a 25 year employee of Slippery Rock University.  Curatola is the first Slippery Rock University employee to hold this designation, and only the second CMP in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
