Mr. Paul R. Uhler – Board Member
VP of Global Human Resources and Corporate Communications of MSA World Headquarters
Paul R. Uhler is currently a Sr. Vice President and CHRO at Mine Safety Appliances Co. (NYSE: MSA). Established in 1914, MSA is the world’s leading provider of sophisticated safety products that protect people’s health, safety and the environment. In 2015, the company’s annual sales were approximately $1.2 billion. MSA products are available in more than 140 countries and are supported globally by nearly 4,600 associates.
Mr. Uhler has been with MSA since 1984, initially working in several human resource positions before being promoted into Operations. Paul was Plant Manager at the Murrysville Plant fromn 1997 through 1999 (an Industry Week Best Plant in 2000) when he assumed responsibilities as the Director of Operations for the Safety Products Division. Mr. Uhler has since lead several critical strategic efforts as the Leader of the MSA Global Manufacturing Council (2001‐2004)and from 2004‐2006 a redesign of MSA’s HR Service Delivery Model where he was instrumental in implementing a comprehensive reorganization of MSA’s HR department. The HR transformation better aligns the department’s programs, initiatives and people processes with the company’s strategic business goals. Over the last 3‐4 years, Mr. Uhler has developed a Global HR Team aligning business results and supporting the high performance culture of MSA.
In May 2006 he was elected as Vice President and Officer and in May 2007 was named Vice President of Global Human Resources and Corporate Communications, overseeing all activities that support MSA’s global HR needs and initiatives. He was elected Sr. Vice President and CHRO by the Board of Directors on March 1, 2016.
Mr. Uhler received a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Pittsburgh in 1982, and earned a Master’s degree in Industrial Relations from St. Francis College in 1985. Mr. Uhler is an active Board Member of the Regional Learning Alliance, a non‐profit educational co‐op provider in Butler County. Also active in MAPI (Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation) for over ten years and currently serves as the HR Council Chair. He also served as a former Board member for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and is a former Director of the American Lung Association as a Board member of the Mid‐Atlantic Region, and served on the Butler County Executive Committee of the American Heart Association.
Paul and his wife Laurie have three grown children and reside north of Pittsburgh in Ross Township. His outside interests include spending time with his family and all water related activity, especially fishing and boating.
